From the Montréal Planetarium
to the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium

The Montréal Planetarium is operated by the Ville de Montréal. The City's four scientific institutions (Botanical Garden, Insectarium, Biodôme and Planetarium) together form the Montréal Space for Life.

Since 1966, the Montréal Planetarium has offered multimedia shows for people of all ages, designed to reveal the fascinating world of astronomy and space exploration.

After more than 45 years serving the Montrealers and visitors from across the world, the "old" Montréal Planetarium closed its doors for the last time on October 10, 2011.

A brand new planetarium, the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, is under construction next to the Biodôme. This new building, which aims to get a LEED Platinum certification, is expected to open in the spring of 2013.
